Psychological Therapies: These involve structured interactions with a trained professional and include techniques like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which identifies and changes distorted thinking patterns; Psychodynamic Therapy, which focuses on unconscious patterns stemming from past relationships; and Supportive Psychotherapy, which relies on empathetic listening and problem-solving.
Somatic Treatments: These include the use of medications (such as antidepressants and antipsychotics) and therapies that stimulate the brain, such as Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) or Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), used to alleviate severe symptoms resistant to other treatments.
Approach: Current understanding emphasizes that mental illness is caused by a complex interaction of genetic, biological, psychological, and environmental factors, requiring an integrated and often personalized treatment approach.
